Impact Finance generally refers to investments in enterprises, organizations, infrastructure projects, real estate or funds. In addition to the economic return target a direct social or environmental impact ( "Impact") is crucial for the decision. It is also called ethical and sustainable investment or socially responsible investment (English socially responsible investment, SRI).
Impact Finance is a wide-ranging field, it can be found in developing and in industrialized countries, it may focus on social or market-based rate of return and thus can either be below or above a "standard" market yield. It is also not limited to asset classes but can be structured in the form of private equity, venture capital, fixed income, equities, etc..
We have separated microfinance from this section, aware that it is a form of Impact Finance, as it is probably the most famous, widely investable possibility of Impact Finance.
