Efficient, software-supported recovery of lost, stolen and found items

In 2015, Markus Schaarschmidt founded getsteroo GmbH with the objective of developing a scalable, technology-driven solution for the management of lost property. Recognising the inefficiencies of traditional lost and found offices – characterised by analogue workflows, lack of system interoperability, and low recovery rates – he created a fully digital platform built on state-of-the-art software architectures.

At the core of the solution is a cloud-based application, which integrates seamlessly into existing ERP and CRM systems via RESTful APIs. The platform supports AI-powered object recognition and automated matching between found and lost item reports. A role-based access control system ensures the secure administration of complex organisational structures, including those at airports, hotel chains, and public transportation networks.

The technological stack is built on a modular microservice architecture, ensuring high system availability and international scalability. Clients benefit from an end-to-end digital process – from the initial registration of found items to automated communication with claimants and final item return – all in full GDPR compliance and with audit-proof documentation.

With over 150 active deployments across Europe and the United States, Markus Schaarschmidt and his team have established a technological benchmark for digital lost and found management, redefining efficiency, transparency, and user satisfaction in the domain of lost property services.

For the further development and adaptation of the software “Zentraler Fundbüro Manager” to enable integration with the IT infrastructure of larger enterprises, and for the recruitment of back-office personnel, Markus Schaarschmidt received €50,000 in funding through the Frankfurt Start-up Fund.
